Okay, this is an idea I had for a hopefully interesting and interactive! part of this blog. I want YOU to suggest to me, via the comments link attached to this message, vitally wonderful music I really, really should buy (or, preferably, download). Most of you know what I'm into - feel free to use this to give you some ideas if you don't. But hell, I'll listen to anything good.
I shall add links presently to do the same for films and books as well, and anything else you can recommend to me. Women, perhaps?
Posted by biondino at June 11, 2002 01:59 PMAlbum I'm Currently Obsessed With Listening To While At The Bookstore: Amy Annelle's School of Secret Dangers
Song From That Album I would Listen/Download First: Broke Down
Actually, that's only what I'm currently obsessed with that wasn't put out back when I was in college. I'm having a hard time not putting on If You're Feeling Sinister (especially the song "Seeing Other People) while at home and taking my cd of I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One (especially the song "Damage")out of my player in the car.
Must. Stop. Living. In. The. Past.
Posted by: Llew on June 11, 2002 08:08 PMI think Julie Doiron's music is definitely worth downloading. "Julie Doiron and the Wooden Stars" is one of my favorite albums ever, maybe even wavering up in the top five. I'd recommend downloading "Gone" or "Again, Again." (The latter is not from "The wooden stars..." album, but rather, an EP titled "Will you still love me?" which is sort of a precursor to the beauty of "The Wooden Stars..."). Cheers!
Posted by: Mandee on June 11, 2002 08:30 PMMandee, you know I already have "Gone"! And love it! /me kisses you
Llew, Thank you so much. I shall download "Broke Down" tomorrow, but then again I'd basically do whatever you tell me to do as I have fallen under your thrall.
Posted by: Mark on June 11, 2002 11:44 PMHoney and me (well, mainly Honey) have just bought Julie Doiron. We are mystically linked with you all still. Not usre which one, as I never look at the names.
Women, yes, are to be recommended.
Posted by: linda on June 12, 2002 02:37 PMSecond recommendation:
Gillian Welch's album Time (The Revelator)
My personal favorite song on this being "Everything Is Free."
Excuse me while I swoon.
Posted by: Llew on June 12, 2002 08:39 PMMaximilian Hecker - infinite love songs...can't claim the credit for finding it, but it is lush and lovely and there's a girl with big thighs on the cover.
Posted by: Linda on June 16, 2002 09:13 PMOK, it's a twenty-minute risk, but you ought to get Kid Koala live on the BBC breezeblock. It starts pretty slowly, but from about seven minutes in, it's the most amazing blitz of samples and musical loops, and it just works.
Failing that, Handsprings by the White Stripes is the first name on my compilation teamsheet - far and away the best thing they've ever done, and only ever released on a pinball-theme album.
Posted by: G on June 16, 2002 11:08 PMI recommend "Belle and Sebastian" - they're a pop/folk combo from Scotland who sound like a school choir let loose on tabor and tin-whistle. VERY STRONG!
Posted by: Christian Cecchi on August 1, 2002 02:42 PMFabrizio de André!!!
He was great in the 60's, and he's ... well he's dead now, but his music still rocks!
Mark, get the new Flaming Lips album !
Posted by: Jordiet on September 6, 2002 10:14 PMYou really should try John Mayer!!!
