It was always going to happen, so...
Please recommend me films! At the cinema, on video, it doesn't really matter. I don't watch enough, and I should see more. I have a (minor) degree in film studies, for heaven's sake!
So please, add any recommendations as comments, if you'l be so kind. All I should say to direct you is that I have depressingly little patience with long, plot-free arthouse cinema. It's not you, it's me.
Posted by biondino at June 16, 2002 08:50 PMRight, well aside from agreeing with you on the whole deer in Richmond Park = GRATE topic, I hereby recommend you a couple of films. Films which, undoubtedly, you have seen before.
Nevertheless:
A Bout De Souffle
The 400 Blows
Delicatessan
The City of Lost Children
Ghost Dog
Together
Love Serenade
Kiss or Kill
THE CASTLE. Genius Aussie comedy that Vanilladavid made us watch last night. Watch it in a big group; it will add reams of IN-JOKE SLANG to your collective repetoire.
Posted by: brian on June 17, 2002 03:05 AMI cannot see why somebody who studied films for 4 years and claims to not even LIKE films would ask for recommendations but I would recommend "Shaolin Soccer" - I saw it at a drive-in in Barbados. It tells of a lapsed Shaolin master who regroups his "Brothers" (ex-pupils/students) and teaches them to channel their dorman kung-fu energy into playing football ("soccer" for the Yanks on this page)and they do. It rules but I cannot find it on DVD yet...

It came out when I was a kid, and cost me a year's allowance :)
Can't say I regret the investment. An all-time favourite still!
