2002: A Telco Odyssey

So we have a curious situation in our new abode.

We live inside that circle, on what most people would call the first floor. Our buzzer outside says "1" next to it. But Apt. 1 is actually the apartment below ours, halfway in the basement. Our apartment is actually Apt. 2. When we called the phone company to get our service hooked up, first they set our line up on the TOP floor (which is actually vacant right now). Then when we told them it was wrong and that we needed service in Apt 2, they disconnected the phones from the people above us (because their outside buzzer says "2" and they are on the 2nd floor; even though they are technically Apt 3). Finally, this morning, 11 days after we moved in, it's all fixed. The phone company guys thought the whole thing was really funny. One of them also made fun of the other one for losing his cell phone, who responded "Ooh! You're so BAD!". I think they were jocular, rotund lovers. Ha.
