Nonsense and stuff
So here it is Wednesday and I'm just getting around to writing about the weekend. Just stop reading this now, go away, never speak to me again.
Anyway. On Saturday my friend Julie organized a picnic for people on the Belle & Sebastian mailing list, many of whom are also IRC fiends and meet up in #sinister on Undernet. We traipsed up to Central Park (heavens! north of 14th street! kill me now!), poured Hooch out into a plastic container, and got down to the serious business of picniccing. Loads of people we didn't even know showed up, the cops never stopped us for the Hooch, and it didn't start to rain until we were leaving. Fabulous. Later that night after several truly embarassing fits of indecision whilst hanging out with strangers, we grabbed some Thai food at Pongsri in Chinatown and then went to Time Square (gasp! Time Square! north of 14th street again! twice in one day!) to try and play Dance Dance Revolution at, of all places, the WWF Theme Restaurant.
Naturally you are reading this and thinking "Who is this insane person? Times Square? WWF? Excuse me while I go read kottke.org or plasticbag.org" but I assure you I am not insane. Because you see, DDR is the most fantastic video game ever manufactured. You might have seen it featured in an Everything But the Girl video (but probably not) -- all I can say is that I expect all of you to come and visit me and play it to truly understand and enjoy it.
As it turns out, the DDR game had moved up the street DEEPER into Times Square in the frightening place known as Bar Code. We played for a few hours, danced our little hearts out, and were only upstaged once -- by a girl of Asian descent who did breakdancing moves and even banged on the ground with her hands while spinning around. Bitch. Someday I will be that good. Someday.
