Spotted.

So my dear Rory and I have taken a giant leap into the 21st century.

Rory, of course, is my PowerBook G4, and she's now happily running OS X 10.2, aka Jaguar.

I haven't been posting much lately because I've been desperately busy rearranging everything to my liking and dealing with all the weirdness X and its kooky FreeBSD subsystem bring to the party.

Mostly, I've been trying to turn off all the chrome and resizing effects. I have things to DO with this computer. Swirling genie windows are all well and good until one realizes the first character one types into a browser window is getting cut off because the SYSTEM IS TOO BUSY DANCING TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE KEYBOARD. I bitched about this in #macintosh on Undernet; I was told I should upgrade my computer. It's one year and one month old.

And don't get me started on Mail.app, which is still about as speedy as a Postal Service employee on the way back from a smoking break. Suffice it to say I've retreated to Eudora; it imported 70mb of email in about 4 seconds and we were back in business.

Anyway, I'm pretty much up to snuff at this point. There're only a few bugs that had BETTER get sorted (like how I can only mount my iPod once without restarting, or how I can't play DVDs on my TV using my video-out port, or how the File Open/Save dialog boxes seem to have been designed by...by... oh, fuck it, I'm metaphorless. Suck it up.) but for the most part I'm loving this brave new world.

Send your tips, app recommendations, and $$$ for program upgrades post haste. I'll be the one drowning in a pool of throbbing aqua jelly.

I so agree about getting rid of unnecessary graphical effects if you want to. You shouldn't have to have a brand-new machine all the time.

(I've just been upgrading from Gnome 1.4 to Gnome 2 because it's actually an upgrade that runs *faster* than the previous version)

The boss has been installing 10.2 this weekend too. He put it on his iMac, but can't log in because the password dialog box is broken.

We both know that that's your boss's own damn fault and not Apple's. Heh.

This is why I don't do new OS releases until they work out the bugs a little. I'm sticking with 10.1.5 until 10.2.5 comes out.

Well, naturally.

Boss stupidity update: he finally realised the reason the login dialog wasn't working was that he'd accidentally unplugged the keyboard. Oops.

LaunchBar :-

The single most useful app ever invented which, if given some loving care and attention, will allow you to completely avoid the heinous excuse for a piece of software Apple has seen fit to call "The Finder".

Oh, and Snood, the single most time consuming app ever invented, which is now available for OS X...

Just an odd question from someone who came across your site... was searching for the name of the song in the i-zone commercial and found what I was looking for on your site... THANKS.. a haunting song.. especially if it grabed my attention enough in 10sec. to search for it on the net. But I don't think it was that song.. but it was from that group right..?? DO you know the name of the song that was on the commercial?

On another note... I fond the concept of this website interesting.. a diary of sorts yes..?? What program do you use for the Message Board.. is it a script..?? Also... who are all the people that post on the site... friends.. or just people who come across the site like me..??
