Whoa Whoa.

I just bought a VHS dupe of the entire first and second series of Popular on eBay. Not sure what I was thinking there. I blame this tiny mention of the show on aaronsw.com. I don't know if I even remember how to use the VCR. What do you mean the tapes don't fit into the TiVo??

In other news, my entire place o' business was shut down all day yesterday for a massive taping for the credits of the next season of Qu**r Ey*. Word is they closed down the whole street and filmed an Austin Pow*rs-y dance number outside. I was kind of hoping I would come in and find my office repainted with one wall featuring a calming, life-size seascape illustration. Or at least some Jonathan Adler ceramics or something! But lo, all I got was a broken spotlight with a post-it on it: "Broken. From F*z Up bar by Qu**r Ey* shoot."

Only, you know, the manager didn't use asterisks to prevent her note from getting Googled to death.

Regarding the asterisks...have you had a bad Google experience or something? I rather like it when strangers find information on my site that interests them, and don't know why you'd want to foil them. Bandwidth is cheap at our level.

I've used the asterisks, but only in long-archived posts that I later realized contained sensitive information that needed to be slightly hidden from internal searches.

I really do it mostly when a topic has something to do with my job. Not that I ever post anything scandalous (or even borderline-interesting, most days) but I'd rather that the people I work with don't stumble on this site. I don't throw my last name around too often, either.

I *have* gone back in and asterisked things when I've felt they were getting too many unrelated Google hits, if only because it was annoying me to see malformed search queries for stupid song lyrics in my referral logs.

I taped the entire first series when it was shown in the UK... they're gathering dust a bit though. So un-svelte next to my dvds!

Yeah, eBay is a devil like that, tempting you with offers of cheap stuff that seems like a good idea at the time but then once you've paid for it you realise 'fuck, I really don't need that' but then it's too late.
