French 76

Fill a Collins glass with ice. Stir in a jigger of Irish whiskey and a jigger of sour mix. Fill glass with champagne; garnish with an orange twist. Sour mix: 2 cups lemon juice, 2 cups water, half a cup of sugar, two egg whites (stringy bits removed with a strainer), well-shaken together. Toast the New Year. Repeat ad nauseum. No really: ad nauseum. (This was my variation last night on the French 75, which uses cognac rather than whiskey. You can also sub gin to make a Champagne Collins. Which we did. Several times.)

Yeah. Raw egg'll do that to you. And whiskey. But who gives a fuck, as long as you blacked out, right? You did black out, didn't black out didn't you?

Did *nobody* drink enough last night??

Huh. There's a sentence in there that's way wrong. I'm sure you know what I mean.

trader vic sez:
gin + sugar/simple syrup + lemon juice + champagne = french 75

or cognac & champagne.

we made the first recipe last new years and it was the first time i ever threw up after drinking! it could have been the disco fries and stuffed cabbage from odessa tho.

Just catching up and having fond memories of the Collins; I'll have you know they put me in perfect form for the rest of my evening. Including the part where I sang "99 Red Balloons" with a live band in front of several rooms full of people. Ahhh sweet gin.
