Fubared!

A few days ago I picked up a new Buffalo AirStation wireless card for my PowerBook to replace my much beloved but aging and not-very-compatible Orinoco card.

While the Orinoco has served me well though many years of online time wasting, it never functioned identically to a "real" AirPort card, while the Buffalo card does. So now I get the benefits of an external antenna while retaining the simplicity and power of the built-in AirPort tools (as well as third-party utilities like MacStumbler and iStumbler). And yes, I am writing this testimonial with the hopes of landing a lucrative endorsement contract for Buffalo's extensive line of fine wireless products. CALL ME!

Anyway, none of this is the point of my story. The point of my story is that with my new antenna I have discovered a world of nearby access points by our apartment, with thrilling names like "Leni" (Riefenstahl????) and "Sn00py". And somehow, last night, drunk with antenna-boosted power, I somehow managed to break our own access point (formerly known by the creative moniker "linksys"--I wanted to change its name to Alice, after my cat, because I am a dork).

Long story short: Matthew was forced to spend the morning surfing on Sn00py. How often does one get to use a phrase like that, huh?
