Vonage. It doesn't rhyme with anything.
So as part of the moving process, we're getting phone service through Vonage. VOIP and all that. Unlimited long distance, blah blah blah. It seems pretty neat, and Amanda & Steve quite like it.
Anyway, I learned two things today.
1. Vonage is pronounced like vonn-uhj. And here I thought the name was meant to make people think about PHONES, not PHONNS.
2. Even though they offer groundbreaking service eliminating dependence on old-fashioned, limited phone lines, their toll-free number is always busy!
Busy signals! How 80s! I love it. Not.

Caffeination.
I know Starbucks is evil. I really do. But frankly I can't resist it. I'd love to do the local coffee shop thing but they're all so crap. And they never have the right size lids.
Plus there are six Starbucks between my work & my train stop--seven if I go a little out of my way and cross one street. The walk is five blocks. Seven Starbucks. Five blocks. Seven Starbucks. Five blocks.
And yet I am moving here:

The pink X is me (Dear Starbucks.com, Uh, nice icon choice. Love, Brian).
The numbers represent the nearest fixes.
#1 is in an airport and therefore doesn't count.
#2 is FIFTY MILES AWAY.
FIFTY MILES.
Fuck.

Find the door and walk out to the sun
I saw Ash once, a long, long time ago. At Maxwell's. When there wasn't a girl in the band. The cute little singer boy was wearing a pirate shirt. They played about 40 songs in the space of an hour. Heidi sat outside. Rebecca and I got Ash out of our systems for good.
This past Monday TtIKtDA posted some stuff by the new-to-me-since-I-stopped-paying-attention-so-long-ago girl from Ash, Charlotte Hatherley. There's a tune called Summer in particular...it's a bloody mess: a false start; you can't tell what's verse and what's chorus for at least three spins; the lyrics equate a bedroom to a cocoon in best Juliana-Hatfield-high-school-poetry stylee; there's a honky tonk piano that kicks in about a minute into the song.
But once it gets going, oh oh oh it's the best damn song of the season. I don't want to go to bed, because there aren't any handclaps when you're sleeping. Go download.

I gots it.
I inexplicably forgot to tell the instructor to put his seat belt on (even though I spent at least half an hour waiting on line rehearsing... excuse me, sir, could you put your seatbelt on? sir, would you mind buckling up? sir, if you don't click it, i'll get a ticket!), but I nailed the parallel parking and the drive-a-straight-line-in-reverse. Look out road, here I come, hesitantly merging and driving several miles with my blinker on!

Tiger, Tiger, Doing Math
Tiger widgets/gadgets work in Safari now (via Kermit the Blog)! And if you download the graphics & html file for, say, the calculator*... well, it, like, calculates. And you can use the keyboard just like you'd expect. Bookmark it to your toolbar and it even launches faster than Panther's built-in calculator.
I already like it more than Panther's calculator since at least it shows the zeros you type after a decimal point.
Neat!
*Not that I have done this, or stored it in an easily accessible compressed file that I could send to anyone who asked for it or anything. No. Because that would be wrong.
