Apples With Pedigrees Selling in Urban Edens
LEBANON, NH: Mr. Wood planted thousands of antique apple trees from 1993 to 1998, but a run of attacks by hungry beavers, deer and porcupines set them back several years. It was not until 1999 that Poverty Lane Orchards shipped significant quantities of rare apples to distributors in the Northeast.
The peculiarities of his varieties both vex and intrigue Mr. Wood. His favorite — it was also Thomas Jefferson's — is Esopus Spitzenburg, bright red, with sky-high levels of sugar balanced by floral acidity. But its limbs grow chaotically, shading out the branches below, and it often produces "blind" wood, with no buds.
"It's the tree from hell," Mr. Wood said, waving his arms at a row of unruly Spitzes as if to say, "Behave!"

Gifties
The "Gifties" area in the sidebar where I (very) occasionally post mp3s has been rewritten from scratch and is now finally published through Movable Type. Which means it has its own feeds: MP3 RSS 1.0 or MP3 RSS 2.0. I didn't do an Atom feed because frankly it's 2AM and Feed Validator only has those two flavors handy.
Now that I don't have to upload/edit that section by hand, I'll probably post mp3s more often. Yay.

I was excited when my pal Will told me about your gossip-consolidation search engine. Because heaven knows I'm all about the gossip-consolidation.
Now I know Page Six can't keep the Olsen twins straight, and that's OK, I get a little confused when confronted with their gigantic alien eyeballs, too. But today, gossip.clusty.com, you have taken the cake!
