These instructions for using TestDisk on a Mac are a little bit less arcane than the ones on the official wiki. Definitely worth keeping.

TESTDISK, I KISS YOU!!!1!!!!!! This program will repair an improperly ejected Firewire drive that has a damaged partition table, something DiskWarrior, TechTool and Drive Genius inexplicably can't do. It's free and it is going RIGHT into my permanent arsenal of tools. (I also used this guy's other program, PhotoRec, on a PC a few months ago to save important pictures from an SD card belonging to my boss after she accidentally wiped it. Brownie points galore!)

The only good writer on Torchwood.

My pal Erin has a Chemex, and while it makes good coffee, I can't really get behind any appliance that uses a leather thong to keep itself assembled. What I do like in this article is the bit about bad coffee tasting like a "brown crayon," which is SO RIGHT ON.

"If anybody thinks [bringing Summer onto Dollhouse] hasn't occurred to me already then they have not met me. "Summer would be perfect to play an active, but she's done that [type of role] a lot. I'd rather see her play someone who talks too much. The most fun I have is when I get somebody who's good and comfortable at doing something, and then I make them do something else. Summer said to me, 'I would like to play a normal girl before I die of extreme old age.'" By the way, am I the only person who thought Topher's assistant in the season finale was Sean Maher? He was only shown from the back.

"Whatever Works, which opens June 19, is both a greeting and a farewell, a film that marks Allen’s return to the city he abruptly abandoned, cinematically speaking, several years ago, as well as a reminder that a certain kind of comedy of which he was once the undisputed master has vanished and is being resurrected only because of an unlikely convergence of circumstances."

To be released in August; featuring audio commentary by Whit Stillman, Chloë Sevigny and Chris Eigeman. This is one of my favorite movies ever.

Glad to see this emphasis on real-world usability of screen fonts in the "narrow" category. Microsoft's recent screen fonts don't include anything narrow and I don't think there are any in the popular open-source font distributions, either. Axel is missing an italic, though, which pretty much takes it out of the running as a contender in its intended category of spreadsheet screen fonts! Sigh.

OH. MY. GOD. THIS. IS. MARVELOUS.

"Popular" was better. Why would you cast the lead in a SHOW ABOUT SINGING with a dude who requires autotune? Still, I'll season-pass it. And bug a little bit about how the teacher guy is supposed to be exactly my age, ugh.

“Can I ask you a personal question?” she said. She stared right into the camera. “Are you really hairy?”

I'm really glad they made up with Kisha and Jen, because that was the one nasty thing about this season of The Amazing Race that had left a bad taste in my mouth. Well, other than Jamie or Cara's (which one is which amirite?) INCREDIBLY IRRITATING xenophobia. P.S. who is the Secret Gay?? It seems like it would have to be either Victor or Tammy...

The "eye" digger-thing on all of the "fancy" potato peelers is backwards and it makes me nuts.

Normally I wouldn't DARE look at the comments on a YouTube vid, but this one wins: "if this is not going No1 everywhere in the civilised world (and by civilised world I mean everywhere but the US), then clearly it's time for the apocalypse" I demand a giant, hi-res version posthaste!

Clea Duvall and Jimmi Simpson? TOO CREEPY.

Dear Christopher Kimball, Please stop giving the same title to more than one episode of your TV show. It's confusing! You've used "Italian Classics" and "Cookie Jar Favorites" four times each, and you've only done 9 seasons! Sigh.

I slipped a disc in my back just from watching this.

Spoiler: RUTH REICHL UNDERCOVER AS AMY WINEHOUSE. Oh my sweet lord.

Total genius! Rose Levy Beranbaum, the incredible baker with a scientific bent, has posted LOADS of video on YouTube. Since I don't even think Food Network HAS a baking show anymore (where did Gale Gand go?) I'll be loading these onto my iPod to sate my cravings.
