i am a dirty stay-out, yet again. wait, let me back up. actually, i think i have to back waaaay up.
so. last weekend i stayed in bed for three days straight reading harry potter. tuesday was back to the grind with 2 hours of work at the writing division, 2 hours of class, and 5 hours of work at the library. wednesday i tried my hardest to look as engaged as possible in class discussion so that my professor would maybe stop thinking i'm a big space cadet. then i skivved off my 3-hour shift at the library and went home to be a good girl and finish my plans for my presentation for timothy's class on thursday. i stayed up late and drank lots of hot things because it was freezing in my apartment and the heat has yet to come on.
thursday i overslept and then had to go to an appointment with my therapist and then worked for 2 hours at the writing division and then.... it was time to give my presentation on hart crane. i was horridly nervous and i don't think i did very well but it's overwith and i don't have to have it hanging over my head for the rest of the term. i walked a bit with david after class and had a nice talk and then brett called so i went over to the graduate school lounge to have tea with him and he was all dolled up in a suit because he'd had a job interview. i invited him and henry to the indiepop dance party and then went home to try to finish work for my workshop which is on fridays. i managed to read poems and compose the responses required but i just couldn't get a poem out, not even a bad one.
so friday was long and kind of awkward and oh yeah i had to give another presentation (this time on louise glück) which was also kind of crap but also is now overwith. my parents really wanted me to come home friday night to fix something with their computer, and i had come to realize that all of my winter clothes were at their house, so i agreed. but! the 8 days of apocolyptic rain had washed out and flooded the taconic state parkway and other roads, so i said i'd hop on the metro north train up there instead. friday afternoon's shift at the writing division office was pleasant, and tessa and i gossipped about boys and girls and various things, finally ducking out early at 4:45pm. i took a cab instead of the m60 bus over to the 125th street train station and got on the 5:20 home. la la la... ate dinner at perkins with my parents and all the old people, went to home depot so my dad could get new faucet handle things, fixed computer, gathered up some sweaters and coats and things, slept in on saturday and watched cable, and then it was time to go back to the city.
en route i spoke to helen who said that her friend's band was in town from austin and would i like to go the d.u.m.b.o. arts festival to see them instead of jens lekman at the mercury, and i said what the hell and called alexis and she was game. then i remembered that brett had asked me if i wanted to go to the arts thing previously so i called to let him in on the plans. i got back to my apartment, changed, went down to alexis's apartment where we ordered thai food and i helped her make buttons for artschool. she has a button maker! it is so fun! i want to make buttons! we made our way to brooklyn and found helen at the performance space which was a bit warehouse thing with various art installations. the night included overpriced bad chardonnay (which is not a dig), spotting work!crush in the crowd, helping brett navigate his newfound home of brooklyn to get there, following helen to the bathroom which was in a whole other building, etc etc etc.
around midnight we headed back to the f-train to go to the indiepop dance party, but helen's friends wanted to stay in brooklyn and she was torn so she decided she'd spend some time in brooklyn with them and then come to the party later. brett decided he was not feeling up to the dance party and headed home. alexis and i made our way to cakeshop where we actually ate cake before starting the dancing. nick and mehmet showed up and of course shirley was there and also some people that joe had introduced to me previously including an awkward moment when this girl who's wedding party joe had taken me to introduced herself and i was like, yeah i was at yr wedding party, and she was like, uhhh okay.... yay awkward!
cakeshop is great but perhaps not the ideal place for a dance party. the dancing didn't really get underway until after 2am. helen eventually showed up and this was after a few more glasses of wine (sharing with beyonce of course) and i was just stupiddrunk and we danced and danced and then helen and alexis and i went to have pizza, where we heard the extremely loud one-sided conversation of a girl trying to find out where some burger place was. this cracked us up suffieciently. then the ladies went to get the subway and i, in my drunken stupor, finally realized that i should have found out whether nick and mehmet were getting a cab. i called nick who had stopped for crepes, so i went back to ludlow to the creperie and then he and mehmet and i shared a cab to the heights and my night ended around 5am with me in bed texting to make sure the girls had gotten home.
i woke up today at 2:30pm when christiaan called; lord knows how long i would have slept otherwise. oh wine, you do make me silly and make me say silly things and dehydrate the fuck out of me. still, i like you.
xo.
