through the snow and uphill both ways
why it takes me so darn long to get to work:
sometimes, when it's cold or rainy or i'm lazy, i get off at an early stop and hop on a shuttle that takes me out of my way but still drops me off eventually right in front of my building. this is because...
if i get off at my stop, i walk up a big long hill. seriously, i need to lean forward 45 degrees to walk up this hill. it takes about 5-7 minutes, which isn't long, but it feels like it.
sometimes i get off at my stop and go through the hospitals, to avoid the hill. this involves walking a maze through the children's hospital, taking an elevator to floor 4 to walk through a maze in the main hospital to take an elevator to the third floor to walk over a bridge to my building where i must then take an elevator down from floor 3 to floor 2. i would normally take the escalator but it's under construction. the stairs don't open on 2. why? who knows?) i actually need to go to M, which is between, but because i am a student i don't have an id card that lets me into the offices on that floor, so i have to go through the main library entrance, which is on 2. my office is on 2, but again because i am a student i need to get keys to the room so i have to then go upstairs to M to get the keys and then back to 2.
if i take the shuttle, then i have to do a similar elevator dance because of the escalators and the stairs not opening on 2. if i walk up the big hill, i enter on floor 2, so that takes care of that. so, often i just walk up the big hill. but today, on this 3°F day, i did not want to do this. i went through the hospital.
